Petrus’s culinary journey began not in a bustling professional kitchen, but in the heart of his family home in South Africa. He shares, “When I was a young teenager, my mum and dad worked long hours, so I would cook for my six brothers and sisters in our tin shack in a township near Brits, South Africa. That’s where my love for cooking began – guided by my mum, using the simplest ingredients to bring joy to the table.”

This foundational experience, rooted in family, resourcefulness, and the simple act of bringing happiness through food, has shaped Petrus’s entire approach to cooking. It’s a philosophy born from love, not just technique, and it shines through in every dish he creates.

From Township Kitchen to MasterChef & Michelin Stars:

Petrus’s innate talent and unwavering passion for food quickly took him beyond his family kitchen onto a remarkable professional path. Many will recognise him as a brilliant quarter-finalist on MasterChef: The Professionals, where his skill and creativity captivated audiences.

His impressive career also includes working at some of the UK’s most distinguished establishments, honing his craft alongside the best in the industry:

  • The Poet, Matfield

  • The Barn, Moore Hall

  • The Savoy, London

These experiences have equipped Petrus with a refined culinary expertise, blending sophisticated techniques with the authentic soul that has always defined his cooking.
